Holiday Enterprises specialise in ski and snowboard
holidays, weekends and short breaks in
Sauze d'Oulx, only 1 hour 15 minutes from Turin international airport, and
half an hour further from Chambery. We offer accommodation in chalets, apartments and hotels. (Sauze d'Oulx is sometimes
incorrectly spelt as Sauze Doulx or Sauze d Oulx).
Arrive any day, leave any day, stay as long as you like:
If you are busy during the week, you can arrive on Thursday or Friday evening
and leave the following Monday or Tuesday, giving yourself a long weekend. If
you are busy at the weekends you can ski on empty pistes during the week.
You can also stretch your stay over two weekends maximising your time on the
slopes with the minimum time off work. A favourite
is to arrive Friday night and stay until the second Monday evening giving
you 10 full days on the piste with only 6 days off work.
Although shorter breaks are by becoming more and
more popular many people still like to come for a week but do not
necessarily wish to travel on Saturday or Sunday, not least because of the
travel chaos on the traditional changeover days.
In summary we provide the following combinations:
Ski weekends, snowboard weekends, short ski breaks, short snowboard breaks,
midweek ski breaks, midweek snowboard breaks, ski holidays, snowboard
holidays.
We offer discounted airport transfers to Sauze d'Oulx from Turin
and Chambery airports meeting flights arriving from 13 UK airports
(Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Gatwick, Leeds-Bradford, Luton, Manchester,
Newcastle, Norwich, Southampton and Stansted) plus Dublin and Brussels. See our
transfers page for details of the airlines, routes and transfer
times.
Although many websites will tell you that it is possible
to get from Turin to Sauze d'Oulx using public transport in just over two
hours they are referring to the actual journey time and do not take into
account any waiting time.
In reality there is a bus from the airport to the station
in Turin; then there is a train from Turin to Oulx (some are direct, some involve
changes); then another bus from Oulx to Sauze which will drop you just
outside the village which can leave you with quite a walk to your
accommodation, often up hills which when you have just arrived at 1535
metres above see level with luggage and possibly skis or snowboard can be
quite exhausting. Not only that but you will need to buy three
tickets in three different ticket offices, each may involve a queue and you will
also need to be able to explain where you want to go.
The just over two hours that these websites refer to assumes that the bus
is ready to leave the airport at the exact time that you are ready to
leave and to arrive
at Turin station at the right time for the train to depart the moment you
board it. Then of course the bus would need to be waiting at Oulx station ready to leave as soon as the train arrives. DO YOU FEEL THAT LUCKY?
If you do don't forget to by your lottery ticket before you
leave home. We would always advise that you book a direct
airport
transfer to Sauze d'Oulx.
Sauze d'Oulx is an ideal departure
point for the Milky Way, which is one of the
world's largest skiing areas. There are over 400 kms of pistes of which
110 kms have artificial snowmaking facilities (over
1000 snow cannons). With 88 ski lifts,
skiers of all standards have the choice of fast, wide pistes or gentler
picturesque routes through the fir and larch woods.
Popular with British tourists for many years,
Sauze d'Oulx has excellent English-speaking ski
and snowboard schools and ski/board hire shops.
Lift pass prices are lower than in many comparable resorts with discounts for
under 12's. Under 9's
and
over 75's ski for free. There
are also nursery/crèche facilities for the very young.
The original village has retained its old
world charm, whilst the newer part has all you need for an enjoyable fun-filled
holiday. Après-ski can be as lively as you please with pubs, bars
and discos. In the many restaurants and pizzerias in the resort you can eat very
well at
reasonable prices.
Advanced skiers will
appreciate the easy connection to Sestriere, where you can enjoy the black runs
at the top of Mount Motta and Mount Sises as well as the Olympic Kandahar
Slalom and Kandahar Barchetta runs. From Sansicario, you have access to the
seemingly endless pistes of the Milky Way, which stretch all the way to Montgenèvre in France. Intermediates have a vast
area to explore. Sauze
offers an excellent range of skiing possibilities with the three main areas of
Clotes, Sportinia and Genevris interlinking by lifts, providing some very
interesting fun runs through mainly wooded terrain. From Triplex there is a good
choice of runs back to the village, some of them quite challenging. Beginners
normally start off at the top of the Sportinia chairlift, where there are
some very enjoyable runs back to the village through the woods. Snowboarding
is also very popular in this fun resort, with a good choice of wide pistes,
varied terrain and lots of off-piste possibilities as well as a snow park.
Après Ski
For non-skiers or those taking a rest, there’s
host of non-skiing activities. By night Sauze comes alive with an incredible choice of
bars, many open late.
Eating Out
There are numerous mountain restaurants, some
of them more modest than others. Most are concentrated in Sportinia, and the
five restaurants based in this sunny plateau maintain a high level of service, although they
tend to get very busy at lunchtime. On sunnier days, some of the bars hold
barbecues.
In the resort all tastes are catered for.
There's everything from up-market Italian banquets to pub grub and a take-away.
You can also get good value Mexican food, burgers or full English
breakfast with authentic bacon!
